The Portland Roads Beach Shack is nestled on the edge of the Iron Range National Park. It is a secluded environment with at least 17 species of unique and rare bird life found nowhere else in Australia, including the Eclectus and Fig Parrots. Another highlight is the Rocky Island bird rookery.
It is close to natural experiences such as fishing, boating and beautiful Chilli Beach. Portland Roads is only 5 nautical miles to the Great Barrier Reef. Local estuaries, beaches and coastline are a a sports fisher person’s heaven. Cairns to Cape York tours are also available with Australian Wilderness Tours .
Modern day prospectors can look for gold, left over from the days when Portland Roads was a registered Port to export gold.
Lockhart Aboriginal Community lies 40 kilometres to the south, where World renowned Lockhart Aboriginal Artwork and Gallery is a must for enthusiasts.
